It's been a wee bit crazy lately. I had one of my friends give me a reading before I started school and by the end of it, she said "flying flaming chariot's of death" would be better for me now. I didn't really believe her at the time, but lo and behold I do now. Why, you ask? Well even if you didn't I'm going to tell you.
I am a third year student at UW Whitewater studying to become a teacher of either English, History, or both. I am wayyy behind because I haven't had enough money to pay for a test I need to take, the Praxis. I have a job, about 30 hours a week working as a Personal Care Worker for Lutheran Social Services, so you think I'd have the money, right? Nope, not really. So I am living in an apartment by myself and it is quite costly. I have rent to pay, groceries, laundry, and gas. Ick, it sucks. I wont' be able to by food until next week (I dont' get paid until Friday) and I have no food in the house. It wouldn't be a problem, but I am throwing my sister's bridal shower this weekend and I did not realize how much it was going to cost me. No complaints though, I'm super excited for the wedding!
At this point your probably asking, flying flaming chariot's of death, why, life doesn't seem that bad! Well It has been a very hard month. I work, as i mentioned before, for LSS. As a careworker, I work with people on and around campus that need help with things you or I can do on our own. Most of my clients are perminently or semi-perminitly in a wheelchair. A lot of them are independent, but I still help with feeding, bathing, cathing etc etc... I love my job. It is the most rewarding field anyone could ever be in and the friendships I've made with my clients are some of the best I've ever had. One of these clients was the type of guy that ten minutes after meeting him you felt like you've known him for your whole life. You could tell him anything and he would alwasy be willing to listen. It always made me smile when I saw his name on my schedual. Well I was at a client's apartment for a night (putting to bed) shift when I asked my client if she know what had happened on main street today. I say cops and ambulences but I didn't know who got hurt. She told me it was the client I told you about before. While crossing the street he was hit by a car. He had a broken arm, broken knees, ankle, and feet, a collapsed lung and various other injuries. They had flown him to the Madison hospital right away. I heard that he was going to be ok. Every few days I would get updates from my boss or friends, and he was getting better and better. On Tuesday September 9th I got a phone call at about one in the afternoon. Mike had died at 10:43 am. Apparently the doctors found fluid in his brain and said there was nothing they could do about it. His parents decided to pull the plug. That was the hardest day I've gone through in a LONG time. He was the first friend I've ever lost, and I don't know how to handle it. His funeral was that Saturday and over 300 people showed up. It was the most amazing funeral I've ever been to. There was an open mic and people went up and told some of the funniest stories i've ever heard. I just don't understand how it is fair for someone to die so young, Mike was 23.
After that, I got a little behind on homework and life just kind of came crashing down on me. I'm trying to deal and I'd like to think i'm doing a semi-decent job of it, we shall see. I'd give you the rest of the story, but it's late and I still need to drive home, so
Goodnight, and Good Luck!
BY the way
